A friend of mine once said that the Vedas are like a loosely connected system of knowledge, that you cannot really change (because Shruthis cannot be changed). But what you can do is provide your own interpretation of the Shruthis and add to the network of knowldege. You can even say that none of the vedas make sense, and it'll still be a part of it. If it doesn't sound familiar, it's quite similar to the blockchain technology. "Data that cannot be tampered with"...

That's how this culture has been built over 1000s of years with numerous interpretaions (atheistic views, agnostic views, religious views). The modern-day culture pertaining to Hinduism is barely 5% of what the culture actually encompasses.
